Medicine

Jerrabomberra Veterinary Hospital has facilities to provide the best level of medical care to your pet. We have on-site diagnostics, comfortable dog and cat wards, a humidicrib and an up-to-date pharmacy (See also Facilities). We have kind, competent and qualified nurses attending all our in-hospital patients. Those patients requiring fluid therapy are maintained on a constant individually tailored rate delivered by fluid pumps. Fluid therapy is used to rehydrate our pets, correct electrolyte balances, diurese waste products and maintain blood pressure during anaesthesia. We also have the ability to combine multiple fluids or intravenous drugs through this system.

Cancer Treatment

Until recently, surgery was the main form of cancer treatment. In the last five years we have found chemotherapy to be a very effective option for pets with cancer. The aim of chemotherapy in veterinary medicine varies from human medicine and we aim not for a cure but for extended quality of life. As such the side effects commonly associated with chemotherapy in people are rarely seen in animals. We have several staff members who are both skilled and experienced in this area and will be happy to advise you and answer any questions on all aspects of this treatment option.

Chemotherapy

Due to advances in medicine and surgery our pets are living. As a consequence the incidence of cancer is on the rise. Our veterinary team is happy to provide various chemotherapy protocols administered in our very own chemotherapy room.

We also tailor specific chemotherapy protocols in conjunction with the Veterinary Oncology Consultants.

Radioactive iodine therapy

Jerrabomberra Veterinary Hospital is proud to have its own Radioactive Iodine therapy suite. This allows us to perform the best, most up-to-date method of treating feline hyperthyroidism. The capsule that is given to cats suffering from hyperthyroidism releases the radioactive component which attacks only the affected cells in the thyroid.

Stem Cell therapy

Jerrabomberra Veterinary Hospital is pleased to offer stem cell therapy as one of the latest treatment for osteoarthritis in pets (dogs, cats, horses). Cutting edge technology is used to extract stem cells from your pets fatty tissue. These cells are then activated and administered to your pets affected joints where they will stimulate healing and alleviate inflammation and pain.
